Volunteering
Volunteers play an integral role in almost every area of our organization. As a charity, we are 98% volunteer based. With the great need we face weekly, the partnerships we have with the community are vital!
There are many opportunities available for both individuals and groups. We work with everyone who wants to volunteer, at any age, including children (supervision is required for children under the age of 16). We also accommodate anyone at any level of physical or mental ability.
We feed about 500 children on a weekly basis. This process is hands-on and involves several steps. Volunteers may choose to be involved in any or all of the following areas:
Purely Prep Time
Prep Work involves preparing each food station for bagging assembly. Volunteers assisting in this way will gather inventory from our warehouse (when applicable), count and sort food items, and organize the food stations. Our warehouse environment is casual, and our volunteers work together, fostering a great sense of community and a deep sense of personal satisfaction. Volunteers may be required to do some light lifting, bending, walking and counting.
Bag-a-Bunch Assembly
Bag-a-Bunch Assembly involves working with other volunteers in an assembly line to fill the bags for Friday delivery. This is a fun, team-building environment, and often, businesses, organizations and charitable groups choose this aspect of volunteering options with our organization to reach their community service goals.
Delicious Delivery Day
Delicious Delivery Day is almost always on Friday! This day is the culmination of all the work we do throughout the week. Volunteers have the opportunity to hand-deliver weekend bags to the schools. Some schools allow for direct interaction with the children under the supervision of a school counselor. Others have different options. Volunteers always have the option to deliver into whichever situation fits their comfort level. All the schools to which we deliver are within a few miles of our current warehouse/office location. Volunteers always find it satisfying to be a part of this aspect of our organization. Volunteers will be required to have a valid Nevada drivers’ license, be able to do some light lifting, and have their own means of reliable transportation. Gas costs are absorbed by the individual volunteer drivers.
Becoming a volunteer is easy! Simply submit a volunteer application (on-line or stop by our office), and your name will be added to our Active Volunteer Database (AVD). We keep our volunteers informed of the various opportunities available and upcoming events through email, Facebook, Twitter, and our on-line newsletter.
If you are unable to coordinate your schedule to be involved in the activities listed for volunteering, you may wish to coordinate a 4 Kids - Friendly Food Drive.
4 Kids-Friendly Food Drive
Organizing a 4 Kids-Friendly Food Drive is easier than you might think! Caring 4 Kids Foundation staff will work with you to ensure a fun, successful food drive!
We will provide you with the necessary materials to get you started, including a Food List, our logo, and a press release describing our organization and its purpose. Listed below are a few tips to get you started. Food Drives can be organized through almost any venue, including businesses, faith-based groups, book clubs, neighborhoods, etc.
4 Kids-Friendly Food Drive Tips:
Set a goal – It is helpful to set a goal so everyone works together towards the same goal. It also creates a great sense of accomplishment when the goal is met and/or surpassed.
Set dates and deadlines – We have found that it is best to have a specific time frame for the food drive with a start date and an end date. This helps people fulfill their individual goals and keeps people from procrastinating.
Have a central collection location – This will eliminate any confusion about how and where to donate.
Make it a competition – Everyone loves to compete!!! And in this scenario, it will be the children that win!
Make the Food Lists accessible – We have very specific food needs for our program. There are approximately 12 items we distribute, so it is extremely important that everyone sticks to the list and the specifications. Also, due to many recalls involving peanut butter products, we ask that everyone avoid purchasing items with peanut butter or peanuts in them.
Communicate the need – It is helpful to make sure everyone is informed about why we do what we do. This keeps the momentum going. If you need more information about our organization, just let us know!
